How You Can Stimulate Gum Regrowth Yourself

The best method to stimulate gum growth is by going to the dentist and ask for a procedure called “gum grafting” or find a dentist that is trained to the the “pinhole treatment”. However you can promote gum regrowth at home with a few simple techniques. Not only is this cheaper than going to the dentist, it will also support – and prevent – a dentist’s treatment.

How To Brush

Use a brush with softer bristles to avoid irritating the gum tissue and brush gently with the brush at a 45 degree angle to the surface of the teeth and gums. You can also use your brush to gently ‘move’ the gums back up towards the teeth. Make sure not to use too much force when brushing. The aim is to clean your teeth – and not to scrub them!

Apply anti-inflammatory dental gel

If your gums are infamed (i.e. you notice bleeding when your you brush) then first stop the infection. We recommend applying this anti-inflammatory gel, which greatly reduces the time for your gums to recover. If you have severe gingivitis, then your dentist won’t be able to restore your receded gums until the inflammation is under control.

Natural Remedies

Studies have shown that ozonated olive oil, when massaged into the gums, may help with gum regrowth. The oil is treated to enhance its anti-bacterial qualities. You can either massage the oil into your gums for 10 minutes or brush you teeth with it.

Turmeric, a powdered root well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, can be mixed into a smooth paste with water and applied to the affected gums for a few minutes and then rinsed off with water. However – unlike with ozonated olive oil-  there are no good studies proving the effectiveness Turmeric powder for stimulating gum growth.

Foods That Stimulate Gum Regrowth

Foods that contain Vitamin C are known to improve gum health and possibly promote gum regrowth. Eating more fruit and vegetables (citrus fruits, broccoli, berries etc.) that contain high levels of the vitamin will aid long-term gum health.

According to online natural health guru David Wolfe, green tea, used in a Japanese study, has huge benefits for good gum health. Bleeding and movement of gums from the teeth was shown to decrease when green tea was drunk regularly.

Oil ‘pulling’

Another technique reputed to help gum regrowth also involves oil. This time, coconut, sesame or sunflower oil is used. Take a tablespoon of the oil into your mouth and push and pull it through the gaps in your teeth with your tongue for about 10-15 mins. It is said enzymes in the oil can help to improve gum health.

Give these simple remedies a try to encourage gum regrowth and dental hygiene. If your problems persist, always get your teeth and gums checked out by a dentist.

Causes of receding gums

Receding gums – also known as gingival recession – has a number of different cause:

  • Periodontal disease – where harmful bacteria has moved into the space between the teeth and gums

  • Poor dental hygiene – a lack of regular brushing and excessive consumption of sugary foods will cause a build-up of plaque

  • Brushing too hard – aggressive brushing irritates sensitive gum tissue

  • Dental treatment, such as the placement of crowns or implants.

The recommendations above can help to promote gum regrowth and at the very least, they will improve the condition of your gums and prevent future problems. However, severe gum regrowth is ultimately not something you can resolve yourself. Only a dentist can do this – and preferably a dentist that has been trained to perform, which is explained in the video below.
